RICHMOND

THURSDAY 23.3.2017:
S-o-o-o-o-o-o-o excited, watching the 2017 'Voice' promo and who do we see - s-o-o-o-o-o going to be voting this year! A break in the weather so we headed for Bilpin (population 932), and the Wildwood Garden - we were buoyed with enthusiasm, had a scenic drive with no rain and as we turned into the street we were met with this sign! No, will not be in the area tomorrow, maybe next time! Lunched at Bilpin Park and then headed for an apple orchard.
INTERNET PHOTO -WHAT WE
WOULD HAVE SEEN!
Bilpin is a small town on the historic Bells Line of Road in the City of Hawkesbury local government area in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. Bilpin is known as "Land of the Mountain Apple". Fruit orchards and beautiful gardens thrive in the fertile soil and the road is lined with roadside stalls selling home-made produce, especially during summer. Bilpin apples and Bilpin apple juice are well-known around Australia. Bought apples (of course), a home made apple pie and grapes!
Waiting for Carole to exit IGA and noticed this profound statement - like it!

RICHMOND - POPULATION: 5,274

INTERNET PHOTO
TUES 21 - WED 22.03.2017: First port of call for the day is Warragamba Dam. Warragamba Dam, a concrete gravity dam, creates Lake Burragorang, the primary reservoir for water supply for Sydney. Yep, the internet photo is as close as we were to the dam. Reached the gates and the dreaded sign appears before you "NO DOGS ALLOWED - FINES APPLY"!
WALLACIA HOTEL
ORIGINAL SCHOOL HOUSE
We drove through the park, did the U-turn in the car park and headed for the Wallacia Hotel - Wallacia (population 1700), was established in 1906 as a rural village. Unfortunately the hotel interior has been modernised and does not have the ambience of the exterior. Onward to the Peel family stomping ground. Don Peel's (Carole's father), final posting was as Principal of Mulgoa Public School. As with any country school there is a quota required for keeping the school open. Don was one student short so he delayed a student's progress due to her academic results and the school remained in operation. Had he not been made that decision the school would not be here today. A library at the school was named in his honour.
FAMILY HOME WHICH IS NOW THE OFFICE
RICHMOND CLUB - THE PHENOMENON
ABOVE THE CLUB IS CALLED "BLUE SKY"
Next stop is Richmond - the Richmond Club has organised for motorhomes and caravans to set up in an area opposite the club. Each van must become a member of the club which is a $10 fee. That $10 allows you to stay for 4 nights, have access to showers and toilets, a dump point and garbage disposal and of course all club facilities. If you require electricity and water it is an extra $10 per night. Carole had expected to encounter a tiny country club where we would just pull up out the back - had to keep walking back just to fit it in the camera frame! Had the $12.50 Seniors all you can eat buffet luncheon, then spent a relaxing afternoon making the usual club donation. The sun lasted nearly all of O-N-E day, but fortunately we missed the severe conditions that hit Sydney!!!!!!!!!!

MINI EXCURSION - MULGOA, NSW - POPULATION: 2,200

YES, GUM BOOTS WERE THE
ORDER OF THE DAY!
SATURDAY 18 - MONDAY 20.03.2017: A break in the weather, let's take the Poodle Palace Ark out and hit the high seas! As everyone knows, the rains just kept on keeping on! Headed for Troy and Melissa's place (Carole's nephew and niece in-law). Also met up with Helen (Carole's sister), who was visiting at the same time. How peaceful and beautiful is Mulgoa - Carole's father was the principal at the Primary School and both sisters were married in a double wedding at the local church.
Troy and Melissa bought property in the area 5 years ago and are currently building their dream home. Enjoyed a lovely relaxing time and visited the Mulgoa Thai Restaurant on Sunday evening for Kai's birthday (Troy and Melissa's son). Carole carries out an 'Eye Spy' and who should she see entering the downtown Mulgoa eatery - The Honourable Marise Payne, Federal Minister for Defence. Tempted to ask for a 'selfie', but not brave enough!
