KARLGARIN - POPULATION: 120

THURSDAY 28.11.2013: Before leaving Kulin we visited the Macrocarpa Trail. Eucalyptus macrocarpa (Mottlecah), is the floral emblem of the Shire of Kulin and grows along the Kulin-Corrigin Road. There were still natives in flower, but spring time would be the ideal season to be visiting.

The macrocarpa was not in flower so we had to settle for an internet photo.

We headed for Karlgarin and Tressies Caravan Park. The infamous Wave Rock is some 15 minutes away from the caravan park and $13.00 per night cheaper than Wave Rock Caravan Park. The townsite was gazetted in 1931. The town has an abandoned school, shop, telephone box, country club, church and a railway siding. Karlgarin is home to the annual yabbie races and is often considered 'the gateway to Pingaring'. A freak storm swept through the town 16 January 2013, with heavy rain and winds of 90 kilometres per hour (56 mph). Only 25 millimetres (1 in) of rain fell but trees were uprooted and roofs were torn off buildings including the local school, general store and church.
