WED 27.11.2013: Tin Horse Highway - on the way to Kulin Bush Races there is a warning regarding the metal horses that appear. The tin horses started as a bit of fun, skillfully made out of drums and odd bits and pieces from farm workshops. It was not long before the tin horses started appearing west of Kulin and so the competition began to make the biggest and best horse.
The Kulin Bush Races are held during the first weekend in October each year and is an iconic country racing event. It is held at the foot of Jilakin Rock, overlooking Jilakin Lake. We did venture out to have a look at the race track - very rustic! Camping during the race weekend is available and would be well worth attending.

Jilakin Rock also boasts the most isolated known stand of jarrah surviving on the water run off and quality soils at the base of the rock. It is a granite rock formed millions of years ago.
The Kulin Branch of the Australasian Order of Old Bastards holds an annual Charity Rally over the Queen's Birthday long weekend in September. Pre 1976 cars are dragged out of sheds and restored to working order for a rally to raise funds. The proceeds are distributed back to community organisations.
