THURSDAY 29.12.2011 - SUNDAY 1.1.2012: Hobart is the state capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Founded in 1804 as a penal colony, Hobart is Australia's second oldest capital city after Sydney. The city is located in the state's south-east on the estuary of the Derwent River. The skyline is dominated by Mount Wellington at 1,271 metres (4,170 ft) high. Pulled up at the Hobart Showground and after completing the "Self Registration" process we headed for a plot - $16.00 per night for power, but must say the power boxes were scattered and this resulted in van "clusters". First day we decided to drive into Hobart City, but were only able to find parking for an hour. After that we opted for public transport! Off to Constitution Dock to view the Sydney to Hobart Race Yachts.

Visited the Taste Festival which showcases the uniqueness and diversity of Tasmania's produce and gourmet food and wine. Had a quiet New Year's Eve, but listened to a fellow camper entertaining the masses.
