WEDNESDAY 28.12.2011: On our way to Hobart we made a recommended stop at Oatlands. Colonialists first started settling in Oatlands in the 1820's, a decade before the founding of Melbourne. As a major location for colonial administration, convict works and a service centre, Oatlands saw much activity and building. It was noted that Oatlands are also developing their topiary throughout the village. One of the oldest Supreme Courthouses in Australia was built at Oatlands by convict labour in 1829. Many death sentences were handed down here, however all but eighteen were later commuted to life sentences.
