KATHERINE

WEDNESDAY 14.08.3013: Organised for a day trip to Nitmiluk National Park. Nitmiluk Gorge (previously known as Katherine Gorge), is made up of thirteen separate gorges, sculpted in sandstone over countless millennia by the Katherine River. The plan was to see three gorges, but due to there being no wet season last year only two were open for viewing. Rang and booked the dogs into what was advertised as "Doggy Day Care". This conjured up visions of a pampered environment which would more than suit our pooches. Dropped them off and learnt that they would be spending the day in a cage - somewhat disappointing given the cost. Determined then we would skip some of the sight seeing and instead return for an early pick up. Drove to the National Park and boarded the boat - two hours of spectacular scenery. They may only be "rocks", but their development and age is fascinating. The 500m walk between gorges to change boats provided additional photo opportunities - stunning!

Picked up the poodles who fortunately had not slit their wrists whilst being confined in the cages and returned to Springvale. Went for a dip in the natural springs swimming pool and dined out at the homestead restaurant.
Had to stop for the B-I-G barra photo in downtown Katherine!
