PINE CREEK

SUNDAY 11.08.2013: We began our day at Berry Springs National Park - barbecues, walks and above all, swimming. The swimming areas are fed by Berry Creek and a number of natural springs - stunning.

A very large sign indicated that Estuarine (saltwater) Crocodile attacks can cause injury or death. These animals are known to move in the area undetected. Freshwater crocodiles inhabit this area. They can become aggressive and cause injury if disturbed. Do not approach or interfere with these animals. It engenders such confidence! Should mention that we have not let the dogs out of the motorhome for the last month. We have received numerous warnings regarding crocodiles and their penchant for small dogs!
Stopped at Hayes Creek Wayside Inn for lunch and could not help but appreciate the petrol bowser - such a shame it did not pump wine! We made our way back to Pussy Cat Flats at Pine Creek. En route there had been comments made regarding the origin of the name - so we asked. During WWII when Darwin was under threat a military camp was established in the area. The soldiers would venture out of an evening to seek the company of Aboriginal women - hence the name Pussy Cat Flats. Had tea out and returned to the motorhome. Rose in the morning and almost stepped straight into next door's kitchen!

NOT A BAD
TERMITE HILL!
