PINE CREEK - POPULATION: 665

THURSDAY 1.08.2013 Ah, the dawning of a new day - we woke to the realisation that during the night Freddie Fridge had turned himself off as he was too cold, but had forgotten to reboot. Opened the fridge for milk - oh the aroma! That fragrant, lingering meatiness that are off chicken necks permeating throughout the motorhome - nice, unusual, different! Disposed of the culprits and headed for Pussy Cat Flats Caravan Park (yep), at Pine Creek. The town was named Pine Creek by Overland Telegraph workers because of the prolific pine trees growing along the banks of the tiny creek. During the 1800s it was the centre of Chinese settlement on the Top End goldfields. Today the town benefits from an active mining industry and is a regular stop for travellers up and down the Stuart Highway.
