EXMOUTH - POPULATION: 1,844

MONDAY 30.09.2013: The plan was to stay in Exmouth and organise a tour of the coral reef and swim with the Whalesharks. Exmouth is on the tip of the North West Cape established in 1967 to support the nearby United States Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt. Beginning in the late 1970s, the town began hosting U.S. Air Force personnel assigned to Learmonth Solar Observatory. The location was first used as a military base in World War II.
Visited Exmouth Information Centre - two caravan parks took dogs, one cheaper than the other so the lady offered to follow up on availability. Powered site $38.00, $50.00 per dog refundable deposit, cannot leave the dogs in the van, nor use the air conditioner, plus you could pay to have the dogs housed at the vets. We had already arranged for the tour days, but with the delivery of the information we lost Leyland Peel - we exited to the car park to reassess our strategy. Picked up lunch (at great expense), and headed, headed, headed for the water - took a while! It was nice, but...... SO, we returned to Bullara Station. Ironically we well and truly exceeded our 200kms in our day's outing!
Later a fellow traveller advised that the same caravan park offered dog minding - $15.00 per hour or $50.00 per day (x 2 dogs). The same lady also knew Angela (Shayden's Fairy Godmother from Tumbling Waters). We so should have asked Angela to travel with us! Have since read that the Whalesharks had well and truly migrated by the time we reached Exmouth – only in town from March to June.
