LAKE TYERS/LAKES ENTRANCE - POP: 4,094

TUESDAY 29.11 - FRIDAY 2.12.2011: The plan was to stay at Lakes Entrance and whilst it is a beautiful village we found the van parks too cramped and without much of a vista. SO, we headed for Lake Tyers Beach and the Lakes Beachfront Holiday Retreat. Loved it and the bonus - 90 Mile Beach which backed onto the park. We decided to take the "Beach Walk" and set off with water, camera and dogs. The walk soon narrowed, with overhanging branches and at times difficult terrain to be traversed. We F-I-N-A-L-L-Y reached the beach and for the first time ever had an environment sufficiently removed from humans and dogs to allow Shayden to run off lead. Due to the 30 degree temperature and Shayden's exhaustion, he had to be carried back! We strategised over our return trip and what we should do if we were unable to find our way "home".
We rued the fact that we had not brought the mobile, deliberated over water levels and available daylight. We soon realised that the return route was a totally different path and obviously the one that we should have initially taken - even had a seat at the half way point!
Decision was made to attempt another half day fishing trip. For the first two days at Lake Tyers we had rain and had to wait till the Friday to venture out. Colin from Lake Tyers Charters was excellent and was prepared to freely share his vast fishing knowledge. The weather was bitter and as we stepped onto the boat we were introduced to the group which included two sub-teen children. Needless to say, the trip at times proved to be rather trying. We exited the boat feeling like "Grumpy Old Women" and deciding that our tolerance is rapidly diminishing as we age!

Visited the local Waterwheel Beach Tavern to "debrief" after the fishing trip!

The Christmas Tree (including lights), was fired on December 1. Sybil even considered running the generator to maintain the lights when in Freedom Camps!
