TUESDAY 6 - WEDNESDAY 7.12.2011: First port of call (HA), was Port Albert (population 248). Shipping activities commenced at Port Albert in the early 1840's, with a number of private jetties erected to service livestock trade to Tasmania and Sydney. Until the establishment of road and rail links between Melbourne and Sale, Port Albert was the primary supply point to the Gippsland and Goldfields. The Government wharf was completed in 1860 and has been used as a fishing base continuously since that time. Beautiful drive through South Gippsland with rolling hills and lush green pastures. We crept slowly down the winding 8 kilometres of narrow and at times, single lane road and arrived at the picturesque Bass Valley Reserve Camping Ground. Sybil's birthday today with an excellent present received - two sets of LED Christmas Lights for the motorhome interior. Battery and solar powered allowing for use at the Freedom Camps! It is with regret that we report the third Leyland sister (Madison), has tired of the great outdoors. The incessant wildlife (blow flys and mosquitoes) has forced her indoors to the new found table lookout! Finally, have we found a village for you - POOWONG! Love the name. A small dairying town located in South Gippsland.
