TOOBEAH (SURROUNDING RURAL AREA) - POP: 218

MONDAY 13.10.2014: The aim is to have hair cuts (human that is), in Texas on Monday:
Hairdresser 1 Texas: only works Tuesday to Thursday.
Hairdressers 2 & 3 Goondiwindi: do not work on a Monday.
Hairdresser 4 Goondiwindi: available and will fit us in at 12.00 yeeha!
We hightailed it to Goondiwindi and managed to finally have the "travel hair" cut. The name Goondiwindi (population: 5,629), derives from an Aboriginal word meaning "the resting place of the birds". From Goondiwindi to our next stop we had mass sightings of emus and one token kangaroo!
CORONATION HOTEL
We are on yet another "pub crawl" - first stop Toobeah. Toobeah is a small town in the Darling Downs on the Barwon Highway. Facilities in the town include the Coronation Hotel and a general store. The Coronation Hotel offers free accommodation, showers and toilets in return for patronage at the pub. Carole went into the pub to determine the process for booking in. Sybil whilst waiting, noticed a 6 foot plus red headed young man striding towards the motorhome. He went round to the passenger's side and advised that it would be easier if he showed us where to enter. He jumped in the passenger's seat (feet astride Shayden on the floor), and directed us to our position - just love the country! The "watch dogs" watched the man (turned out to be Michael Offerdahl, the publican), come and watched him go and one is not even sure that Shayden was aware of the change in personnel!
Bought a bottle of wine - $15.00 to take away and $20.00 to drink at the pub. The logic is that the pub will remain competitive and the locals will not purchase their supplies from Goondiwindi. Yes, we retreated to Poodle Palace at the back of the pub and enjoyed a glass there.
