SAT 16 - SUN 17.07.2016: The timber industry played an important role in the development of the town. The town is named after Eucalyptus pilularis, commonly known as blackbutt, a common tree of the family Myrtaceae native to south-eastern Australia which is one of Australia's most important hardwoods. Had planned to stay at a designated MSO, but were unable to gain a response by phone. Driving through 'town' we noticed three important signs - Lions Markets and a Country Music Concert on Sunday, followed by an RV free rest area. Ticked all the boxes! Pulled in behind the local café/gym centre and parked.
First port of call, the Lions Markets. The stalls were somewhat depleted due to the wet weather, but of course we managed to pick up an item from each of the vendors. Slightly smaller than Eumundi markets! Onwards to the Country Music Concert at the Community Hall. A group from Toowoomba had been invited to also perform at the event and apparently 60 people @ $5.00 per head had been expected. 90 people attended, which meant a couple of 'chooks' had to be purchased from the local store so that lunch numbers could be catered for. Just love the country functions - the enthusiasm of the performers at times does outweigh their ability, but passion for their craft is immeasurable. Went for a walk during the designated lunch period and visited the local pub. Returned for our coffee and cakes (included in our entry fee), and watched the afternoon session. In the main, the 'men' played and sang and the 'women' did the line dancing! Returned to our rest area and booked in for a Chinese dinner at the Swiss styled Edelweiss Café! Easy walk back to Poodle Palace for a relaxing evening. Had a superb day - enjoyed EVERYTHING!
