NOBBY, QLD - POPULATION: 484

WED 29.06 - FRI 1.07.2016: Made a stop at Warwick - little disappointed in the size, a tad big for the LTP visitors! First port of call the dump point. With gusto Sybil (alias Frank Spencer, "Some Mothers Do Have Them"), takes the hose out of the bag - the end with the brass fitting springs out and makes contact with the lip. The incident resulted in a split lip with severe bruising. Most times when Sybil has incurred a bruise from gardening she will jokingly blame Carole, but on this occasion it was too realistic to even joke!  We finished our chores and headed for a pub stay at Nobby. How to make an impression on strangers when sporting a fat lip! Nobby is a small town on the Darling Downs in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland. The origin of the name Nobby is unknown. When the Western railway line from Toowoomba to Warwick was being constructed, a worker's camp known as McDonald's Camp was established in the area in 1868 and this gave its name to the general area. However, the railway siding created was known as Nobby's Siding and the area become known as Nobby.
Rudd's Pub was originally built in 1893 across the road from the Nobby railway station as the Davenport Hotel; the architects were James Marks and Son. Based on local folklore that author Steele Rudd (who lived in Nobby) wrote some of his works in the pub, it was renamed Rudd's Pub in the 1980s. Frequented the pub on a couple of occasions and as usual enjoyed the ambience of the historic building.
Sister Kenny House is a memorial to Sister Elizabeth Kenny who pioneered physiotherapy as a treatment for polio. This small museum holds artefacts relating to her life and therapies. Sister Kenny was once a resident of Nobby. Do not know what is happening, but Shayden has crashed first, closely followed by Madison. Diarrhoea like you would not believe - have administered the appropriate medication, but it is a case of wait and see. Have obviously picked up a "bug" from somewhere.
