LAKE BURBURY

MONDAY 30.1.2012: We continued on our way west. Too wet to complete the Franklin River Nature Trail so we opted for a shorter walk at the Nelson Falls. This was a lovely walk located on the Lyell Highway between Derwent Bridge and Queenstown. The brochure indicated that "heavy rain can occur in any month" - ha, it poured!
NELSON FALLS

Onward to the evening stopover at the Lake Burbury Foreshore. "Off the highway along old bitumen road". First we encountered the overhang of trees, then came the bitumen road - they forgot to mention the old, but b-i-g potholes. We crept along and found that the road started to narrow, to the point where we thought we may have to back out all the way to the entrance. NO, we shall try to turn in what was perceived to be the widest part of the road. Slow reverse, big tree, even bigger rock behind the tree! That took the tail light off the storage box, then a 100 point turn followed - we were finally facing in the right direction. Returned to a clearing and endured a fierce storm overnight - very long day!
