DERBY

FRIDAY 6.09.2013: Derby Gaol was often overcrowded - designed for 30 people, it held up to 61 in 1907. Aboriginal prisoners were held by neck chains, which were secured by handcuffs to the ring bolts in the floor. The gaol was intended as temporary accommodation.
"In memory of the men, women and children who passed through this place, from the beginning in 1906 to the end in 1975, for one or two nights or even six months, waiting for their trial or to be witness or just waiting."
Over the past few days Madison has not been "herself". One minor throw up, at times struggling with the heat and then most importantly - she went off her food. Today she started to shake and pant. Never ones to panic where the dogs are concerned, we rushed off to the local vet! Derby vet is opened on a Wednesday and Thursday - yes today is Friday! As the day progressed Madison did not improve so by evening we decided to ring Broome Veterinary Hospital. They were very helpful - symptoms were explained and they diagnosed pancreatitis as a likely problem. We pulled down the Poodle Dispensary purchased at great expense prior to travel and dosed her with the appropriate medicine. There was a slight improvement so we decided not to drive to Broome and pay for what we had been advised, would be a very costly after hours visit.
