LAKE KING, LAKE GRACE & PINGRUP

MONDAY 2 - TUESDAY 3.12.2013: Having detoured from Route 107 to visit Wave Rock we made our way back to complete the drive. Drove past many, many, many salt lakes - crystal white or a variety of shades of pink, green, tan and mauve. During spring the whole area comes alive with magnificent displays of wildflowers on road verges and reserves. Needless to say, the Leylands had expected to see endless blue water lakes! Our first stop was at Lake King (population 219), Caravan Park.
LAKE KING CAUSEWAY
The Lake King Causeway crosses over 10 klms of salt lakes that are studded with natural scrub and wildflowers.

Onward through Newdegate (population 441), and on to Lake Grace (population 507), one of Australia's largest inland salt lakes and a nationally significant wetland. A lovely tribute was featured in the city centre which acknowledged the contribution the women had made to Lake Grace.
"The women featured in the mural were nominated by community members and they also represent all the women who have given their time and energies to make our community a great place to live and work."
THE B-I-G SHEARS AT PINGRUP
We left Route 107 and headed for Pingrup (population 276), where we stayed at the Pingrup Shire Caravan Park. The drive from Lake Grace was an interesting one - the grasshoppers created a haze that lasted the entire drive. Cannot count the number of insects that have ended their life on the front of the motorhome!
