TIMBER CREEK - POPULATION: 150

FRIDAY 16.08.2013: Whilst it is expected, it still amazes you how much the scenery varies over such short distances. Today's drive was superb - something to look at all the time. Stopped for petrol at the Victoria River Roadhouse and toyed with a helicopter flight over the Gregory National Park, but decided that we just cannot do everything!
Stayed at the Big Horse Creek Campground at Judbarra/Gregory National Park some 10kms from Timber Creek. Pets were allowed in the campground only. Great sites and a large area and all at the exorbitant cost of $3.30 per person. We have encountered many boab trees of late and here was no different. The iconic boab tree, Adansonia gregorii, is unique to the Kimberley and Victoria River Regions of Australia. The boab tree is deciduous, and will lose its leaves and go into dormancy during the winter months, which is the ‘dry season’ in the topics.
